It seems as though there is absolutely nothing going on in West Virginia — at least nothing that peaks the interest of the Gazette’s liberal columnist, Phil Kabler. So he turns to the well-worn subject of Senator Vic Sprouse and his multiple divorces.
Now on his second week of discussing it, Phil Kabler makes it sound as though he and Sprouse would be the best of pals if it were not for all the divorces. We all know he is philosophically opposed to most of what conservatives stand for, but with sanctimoniousness that would put Dr. Jerry Falwell to shame, Kabler declares Sprouse “damaged goods” who cannot win in the next election. His proof? Kabler turns to a qualified and completely unbiased source: Sprouse’s ex.
Ah yes; now that’s quality commentary for you.
With his column sounding more and more like “As The Stomach Turns,” I would like to offer the top 5 things Kabler should be writing about.
5. The Public Policy Foundation of West Virginia released a study entitled “Unleashing Capitalism — Why Prosperity Stops at the West Virginia Border and How to Fix It.” The report criticized the state’s lack of private industry and gave manageable steps on how to get our state’s economy back on track.
4. According to the West Virginia Record, the West Virginia Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse released a list of 10 cases highlighting what it sees as problems with the state’s legal system. It is eye opening and very scary.
3. West Virginia pays an exorbitant amount in obesity related health care and is now subsidizing Weight Watchers. Ain’t that the pistol?
2. Governor Mitt Romney’s visit to Charleston. You would think that a visiting presidential candidate would rate at least a paragraph in Kabler’s column. But after weeks of silence, he must follow the adage “if you can’t say something bad about a conservative, say nothing.” That leaves one question: if a visiting dignitary never gets mentioned in Phil’s column, did even come at all?
1. Gayle Manchin’s rant on the last night of session. The first lady “pulled rank,” as she called it, for four people that she thought should be treated better than everyone else.

With over half of all marriages in the United States ending in divorce, Kabler must have a hard time living in this world. I hate to see his column go into a death spiral as he chases old news that no one cares about. Maybe my list will help.
While Kabler is doubtful to use this, don’t worry, I’ll cover most of these topics this week.

sup buddy, tell me more about this rant of Gayle’s? I hadn’t heard about it. Also, I am, a loyal friend and fan of Vic’s, but his gloves off approach to Manchin’s daughter and this football mess is confusing me.
