Roy Moore for Governor campaign

I am currently out of town and working on the Roy Moore for Governor campaign. For those of you thinking, “Roy Moore, that sounds familiar,” it is not your imagination. He used to be Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court until he was kicked out for displaying the Ten Commandments in the Supreme Court building and refusing to remove them.

Whether you believe Moore was right or wrong for disobeying orders, you have to admire his stand for principle. He is a smart man: surely he knew that disobeying would have dire consequences on his career and his position that is the dream of any judge in Alabama, yet he stood. Regardless of the judiciary system’s actions, Moore is loved by the people of Alabama and has achieved something of superstar status with those in the conservative movement. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in a primary election against a Republican incumbent.

With an approval rating in the 30th percentile, Republican Governor Riley is anything but popular. He ran on a strictly conservative platform four years ago and promised no tax raises but once elected, proposed the highest tax increase in Alabama history: $1.2 billion dollars. It passed the legislature, but Alabama has a rule that any tax increase has to be approved by the people and they voted it down two to one.

Riley said the tax was necessary to address a projected $675 million dollar deficit. Several years later, with no tax increase, the state is in the black with no deficit to be seen. There is a lesson to be learned for you West Virginia democrats out there. What if we just learn to live within our means? Heresy, I know.

Moore is no darling of the press and he has next to no money because the Republican Party is, as is customary, backing the incumbent. Alabama politics is way out of my purview, but I think he has a fighting chance. We’ll see on June 6th.

Because I will be down there and be too busy to even sleep, posts to this site may be little to nothing. Which is a shame because I have dirt on a certain senator that lives in a certain northern part of our fair state. I may temporarily change the writing format of the site for the time I am gone and post shorter articles, but I may not have time for even that.

Moore may be the only true conservative left.

If he could only read the Constitution.
