Liberal democrats met at Capitol Roasters on Friday to brainstorm on what sort of reception to give President George Bush when he comes to Charleston on July 26. Attendees of the gathering included the ultra-liberal leader of the Patriots for Peace, Jim Lewis, a Democratic candidate rejected by his own party in the primary, Ted Boettner, plus four others, including the prerequisite guy in a tie-die shirt.
The ideas the group came up with helped illustrate the void in liberal reasoning. One member wanted to bring an Elvis impersonator to protest the fact that the President took Japan’s Prime Minister to Graceland “during wartime.” Of course, it never occurred to the liberals that they themselves were sipping coffee and nibbling scones in time of war as well.
The President will be arriving at a South Hills home to attend a private gathering (as private as a 2000-person guest list can be) to raise money for Shelley Moore Capito’s reelection bid. The liberals remarked that they hoped the protest ticked (a stronger word than “ticked” was used) off the residents of the neighborhood. Perhaps, they reasoned, it would get them thinking about the tragedy of war.
But these liberals are not as dense as their Birkenstocks. One predicted the publicized address was probably a ploy and the President was planning to meet somewhere else. The rest heartily agreed and plans were made to be on the lookout for a switch. The arrogance required to assume, first, the President knows about them and, second, tedious plans would be made to deceive is staggering.
President Bush will not be the only one bearing the brunt of all 6 members of their protest group. Anne Coulter and Karl Rove will be burned in effigy as well. Why? Well, they’re just plain evil, doncha know. No other reason is needed.
The event was another comical episode in the life of frustrated liberals. It would be entirely humorous were it not for the Patriots for Peace’s habit of protesting using a banner of all the names of our soldiers who died in Iraq. Because the soldier’s families have not given their permission to the Patriots for Peace to use their names, protesting a war that many of the soldiers supported is plain wrong.
Liberals forget that the battle for the vote of the electorate is over ideas. They will never win as long as obscure conservative’s names are invoked and Elvis impersonators swing their hips behind a banner of the brave dead.

Why don’t you meet with Jim Lewis and type up the results of your meeting?
Man, I can’t believe you can’t see what is going on. How can you blindly follow a president that has led this country into a war against people who have pledged thier undying hatred and anamosity toward us? Don’t you know if John Kerry had been elected Katrina would have been a harmless tropical storm, the current fighting between Israel and Hezbullah would have been averted, and all the terrorists would be joining this group in Charleston wearing tye-dyed T-shirts and singing Kumbyah? Man…get a grip, war is bad. (Sarcasm)
Your comments comparing the density of liberals to their Birkenstocks along with other tie-dye references make your column and your elitist statements and assumptions totally irrelavent. If there is the slightest controversy in an already divided nation, there will be protests. Perhaps you should find a new hobby rather than condescending your West Virginia brethren in your poor attempts at conservative humor. Leave it to the experts. Remember that your opinions and those of other pathetic journalists are very unimportant in the grand scheme of things - maybe you should try and do something about your convictions like the Patriots for Peace. At least they have the balls to do something about it.
If that’s Anna that wrote the article in Goldenseal, it was a great article.
