Things will change for me very soon for several months. I have received an offer to work for Louisiana Congressman Bobby Jindal’s reelection campaign as director of a program called Student Project. Over 150 high school aged, conservative young people from across the country will be coming to New Orleans to help knock doors and pass out literature and I’m going to be their fearless leader.
Because coordinating so many people is a labor-intensive task I will have to go down to Louisiana soon. I have taken a leave of absence from the Senate starting today until sometime in November.
Not only is this a great chance to work for a solid conservative (who, like Senator Harrison, graduated from Brown without turning liberal), I will be just north of my home and seeing people I grew up with, going to the church we left when we moved up here, and eating at all the familiar places.
I tell you all this because it will affect the blog. This site has enjoyed a meteoric rise from complete obscurity to being the number one West Virginia local politics blog. With over 30,000 unique visitors last month, the legislature and every major media outlet in West Virginia read it. Throughout the two years I have made many online friendships – even with those who disagreed with me – and I have no intentions of quitting now.
I’m unrolling a new design soon that will have additional features, I plan to write more posts and the blog’s subject is going to expand some. For the next few months, not only will I cover West Virginia politics, I’ll dabble in Louisiana’s as well. With Huey P. Long in Louisiana’s past, there isn’t much different between the two states.
While I am looking forward to working in the campaign, I cannot help but miss some things. Every time I park in the Governor’s drive and walk toward the capitol I get a little rise in my heart as I admire the beauty of the building and the dome. It is better than a cup of Starbucks in the morning…okay, almost.
Don’t worry or if you are a liberal, start throwing a party. I’ll be back. Meanwhile ponder this saying I found in my fortune cookie last night: “Force equals too much; effort equals too little; being equals enough.” Yeah, I don’t get it either.
