The ACLU is suing congress for passing a bill that establishes a national religion. Wait, that’s not right. Let me try again. The ACLU is suing Harrison County education officials for hanging a picture of a man’s interpretation of what Jesus looks like in Bridgeport High School.

The liberal Charleston Gazette has come out in support of the Charleston user “fee.” We all know that it is a fee in name only so that it could be called legal and seeing as we are all adults here, I will call it what it is: a user tax.

Senator Robert Byrd: a friend of liberals

For those of you still wondering whether Senator Byrd is a conservative or liberal, his vote to cut-and-run in Iraq should remove all doubt.

Byrd joined his liberal buddies in voting for a resolution written by Senator John Kerry to remove a majority of the U.S. forces in Iraq by the end of this year. The resolution was so extreme, so left-wing that only 5 of his liberal senate friends dared support it.

Time for Steve Harrison

The Republican faithful will be congregating on July 28th to vote in a new party chairman. Rob Capehart, who successfully helped patch our party together after the Warner debacle, will not be looking for a second term.

Capehart was excellent in recovering the party, but there were many who thought he did not raise enough money or make enough noise about the Republican agenda. For his role as peacemaker and pieces collector, there was none better. Now it is time to move on. The question is move on to whom?

Today is the day that Senator Robert Byrd surpasses Strom Thurmond as the longest serving Senator. It would be opportune to evaluate Byrd’s tenure. Instead of looking, as many of his supporters do, at what he has done as the determinate for his success, let us use the results of his actions — the state of the state, if you will — as our benchmark.

Alabama says no Moore

The Alabama primary election is over and as you may have heard, Roy Moore lost in his bid for Governor. While it was disappointing, a quick survey of the situation once I got to Alabama revealed his chances of winning were slim to non-existent and I was not surprised.
