The significance of 2,000

Why are the liberals infatuated with round numbers? They announce with a sickening mixture of pompousness and forced piety that 2,000 soldiers have died in Iraq and that is proof of the United States’ failure.

The distinction of 2,000 is a cultural one. What makes 2,000 more significant than 1,999? The 200th multiple of 10 is notable only because we live in a culture that adapted the Roman numerical system and use the number 10 as our base. The Babylonian’s numerical base was 60 and the Jew’s was 7. Change cultures and the Liberals would be breathlessly anticipating 2,100 deaths.

When involved in any project, one must always analyze its progress. But if you focus exclusively on the cost and ignore all benefits, you skewer your analysis and exaggerate the failure or success of the project. What if I told you in 1910 congress set aside $3million dollars? Sounds like one more example of government graft, right? The money was used to erect the Lincoln memorial: a project well worth the expense.

As Anti-war protestors uncork the wine over the number 2,000, may I suggest they celebrate another number: 9,765,000. That’s the number of Iraqis who turned out to vote on their constitution. These were liberated Iraqis who suffered under a brutal dictator who will kill you if you express a negative opinion of the government.

You would never have the 9,765,000 without the 2,000.

But Liberals do not celebrate such things. It does not fit into their twisted agenda.

When the Iraqis ratified their constitution, Liberal were strangely silent. If they did speak on the subject, they said the vote was rigged. Now that the number 2,000 has appeared, the Liberals have thrown their macabre party. Perhaps they were just saving up their energy for this big occasion.

2,000 soldiers dead is a tragedy, but as you contemplate that number, keep 9,765,000 voters and the millions of Iraqis freed in mind.
