He doesn’t have a record, he doesn’t wear gang-clothing, his hair is neatly cut, he traveled hundreds of miles with his parents, and he is only 10-years-old. This boy came to protest an gross injustice. But because his childlike sense of justice collided with the state’s demented, pagan sense of justice, young Joshua Heldreth was arrested.
His crime? He tried to give Terri Schiavo water.
The Palm Beach Post tells the story this way:
“One of those arrested, 10-year old Joshua Heldreth of Charlotte, N.C., walked alone to the waiting officers. When a tall police lieutenant politely asked the boy, ‘will you leave?’ Joshua shook his head and in a little boy voice said, ‘No.’
“As his son was going through the routine of being searched and placed inside a sheriff’s van, Scott Heldreth said he was proud [of] his eldest son’s action…
“He said the idea was his son’s and that if the boy had not asked his mother first he might have discouraged his son from doing it.”
I find no fault in trying to give someone dying from state-induced thirst a drink of water. Do you?
According to the Bible, the rich man in Hell only wanted one thing: water.
“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”
– Luke 16:23-24
Notice that he never asked for escape or for a deadening of the pain. He just wanted a drop of water.
Those who mandated this barbaric murder will receive a recompense of the Hell they have given.

Josh Heldreth is NOT a criminal. Even though YOU think it’s a mistake to violate a court order, he’s no CRIMINAL!! His father asked him to take a stand and give Terri Schiavo a cup of water. His mom and dad were proud of it.
Anonymous, I must not have made myself clear. While his actions were a violation of law and therefore criminal, I do not condemn it. This piece was merely an attempt to underscore the fact that any rule that makes criminals out of clean-cut young boys needs serious reconsideration.
