Capito says no to Byrd challenge

In an press conference this morning, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito announced she is not running against Senator Byrd. “If circumstances were to change and the environment were to change, then people might say they want to see me in a different role,” Capito said this morning. “But I took a lot of time with this decision. My best future right now is to ask voters to send me back to my seat in Congress. I feel I’ve been very effective there, and there’s more to be done.”

This is certainly no surprise. The prevailing thought in the Capito camp was that she should not risk her seat when they know Senator Byrd will not make it much longer.

I don’t think there is much doubt that she would lose to Byrd. Good move on her part, but I wish she would have challenged him so she would look dead politically.

Capito is running with her tail between her legs.
